Step Zero: Pre-Departure (McAllen)
Back to Pre-Festival Overview ยท 00 - Trip Overview
Goal: Start the sleep cycle flip early with a Tuesday night all-nighter, sleep through Wednesday morning to hit the ground running in Vegas, and pack efficiently using the hotel's laundry service.
๐ Agent Brief (Travel & EDC Experts)
๐ Packing Strategy (The "Laundry Advantage")
Since your hotel has laundry service, do not overpack everyday clothes. However, festival gear is often delicate and shouldn't be machine-washed mid-trip.
๐ Clothing Balance
- Festival Outfits (3 complete sets): Pack these in full. Include undergarments, layers, and socks specifically dedicated to each night. (Do not plan to wash these mid-trip).
- Casual Daytime / Errand Clothes (2-3 outfits): Think athletic wear, shorts, and light t-shirts for grocery runs or casual Vegas walking. You will wash these.
- Pre/Post-Festival Loungewear (2 sets): Comfortable clothes for the hotel room (sweatpants, oversized tees) for the morning wind-downs. Wash as needed.
- Travel Outfit (1 set): What you wear to the airport on Wednesday can be washed and re-worn on the flight back home on Tuesday.
๐งณ How to Pack It
- Rolling Method + Packing Cubes: Roll your daytime and loungewear into packing cubes to save space.
- The "Festival Cube": Dedicate one specific packing cube entirely to EDC gear (pashminas, fans, earplugs, hydration packs, Kandi). Keep the festival chaos contained.
- Carry-On Essentials: Pack your high-value EDC items (VIP wristbands, high-fidelity earplugs, medications) in your personal item or carry-on, never in checked luggage.
๐ฆ The McAllen All-Nighter (Tuesday Night)
The Challenge: You need to stay awake Tuesday night into Wednesday morning to flip your clock before the 8:00 PM flight.
๐ 10:00 PM โ 1:00 AM: Entertainment (Out of the House)
- Late Movie: Catch the latest possible showing at Cinemark Hollywood USA or Cinemark Movie Bistro. Movies starting around 10:30 PM will end past 1:00 AM.
- Alternative: Head to the 17th Street Entertainment District (e.g., The Yard or Love Buzz) for a lively atmosphere to keep your energy up.
๐ 1:00 AM โ 2:30 AM: The 24/7 Food Run
- Most bars in McAllen close at 2:00 AM. Head to a 24-hour spot to grab a bite and keep the momentum going.
- Taco Palenque (S. 10th St or N. 10th St) is open 24/7. Grab late-night tacos and hydrate.
๐ 2:30 AM โ 6:00 AM: The Final Stretch (Home)
- Head back home. Do not sit on a comfortable bed or couch.
- Take a refreshing, slightly cool shower to wake up your system.
- Play an engaging, fast-paced video game together or do some light house-cleaning so you return to a pristine home after the trip.
๐ด The Clock-Flip Sleep (Wednesday Day)
- 6:00 AM โ 2:00 PM: Sleep. Use blackout curtains and an eye mask. This 8-hour block matches your target Vegas sleep schedule.
- 2:00 PM โ 5:00 PM: Wake up, final house prep, pack last-minute toiletries.
- 6:00 PM: Leave for McAllen International Airport (MFE).
- 8:00 PM: Flight departs for Las Vegas.
